Mumma's Buttermilk Scones

I love 'hand-me-down' recipes! This one is from my Grandmother's repertoire and they are by far the best scones I have ever had. Scones are a great recipe to try with the kids as there are lots of points in which they can help along the way.
Serve these with lashings of home made jam and cream, or some good lemon butter!

Buttermilk Scones

2 1/2 cups self raising flour
30g butter cubes
1 1/4 cups buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking powder and 1 egg

Method
Preheat oven 220 degrees.
Line flat baking tray with baking paper.
Sift flour, add flour and butter cubes and baking powder Gently rub together until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Make a well in the centre of the bowl. Add milk. Gently combine. Place on floured board and gently knead. Make 5cm rounds from the dough (use a glass to cut the shapes). Place onto baking tray and brush with a little extra milk. Cook for approximately 12 to 15 minutes.

Note - You can add sultanas to the dry mix for sultana scones.
